Thanks to modern surgical and anaesthetical techniques, we can nowadays practice one-day surgical attendance during the treatment of several diseases.
In this instance the in-patient treatment starts on the day of the surgical intervention. The patient checks in at the hospital 2 hours before surgery, after which the patient is requested to remain a minimum of 24 hours in the hospital. After this she/he can continue the recovery period at home, in their private, known environment.
The legal conditions of a one-day surgical attendance are as follows:
- only the specific intervention(s) can be performed which are authorized by law,
- can only occur on a pre-planned order,
- the patient remains for less than 24 hours in the health institute where the intervention takes place.
The patient:
- its general condition is good, has a mild systemic disease without functional dis-functions, and therefore don’t require close observation,
- does not require blood transfusion due to blood loss during surgery,
- pain is expected to be minimal following surgery,
- in the case of an adult – she/he is able to support itself and/or has pre-arranged special attendance at home. And in the case of children – pre arranged homecare facilities are available.
- the patient has declared the following:
• housing and hygienic conditions are adequate,
• can reach the health institute by car (ambulance) – taking into account general traffic – in 30 minutes from its residence,
• telephone is available at all times at its residence,
• supervision and/or proper medical attendance is ensured, should it be required following surgery,
• agrees to undergo a one-day surgery and to receive the applicable surgical attendance.
Our health institute ensures the following:
- personal and objective conditions, which is specified by law,
- a specialist who is experienced in performing surgical interventions, who acquired 5-year continuous professional practice following the special examination in an active inpatient institution. The experience can be proved with a numerical statement about previous surgeries performed,
- medicines which are required due to the surgery provided during the time of the hospitalization,
- the necessary personal and objective conditions to attend to any possible emerging complications during or after surgery,
- the history of the active inpatient treatment in our own institute in the case of any problems,
- possibility of the biopsy of the removed tissue during the course of surgery,
- a medical report of the patient, which serves as proof of the surgery and or/treatment.
It is important that the patient prepares herself/himself for the hospitalization, organizes its home care carefully before surgery and have the necessary facilities/supervision to be able to contact the hospital or medical attendee in the case of an emergency.
